Whether you are in search of a green park for baseball or soccer, trails for hiking or cross-country running, an ice rink for skating, land for horseback riding, a pool, or even a golf course for 18 rounds; no matter the sport or the season, Van Cortland Park has everything you could ever need for a day outdoors.

Easily-accessible by subway, Van Cortland Park’s 1,146 acres of hills and valleys has been the location of fond childhood memories for countless generations. The green space is beautiful, with exceptional blend of trees, shrubbery and flowers that make it a haven for naturalists in in every season.

What people love the most, however, is that the park becomes a crossroads for nearly every nationality under the sun. You’ll hear Hindi or the King’s English at the cricket field; Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, English, or Patois on the soccer field; Spanish and English on the baseball fields; and just about every other language in other areas of the park.

The free summer Concerts in the Park feature extraordinary musicians and include performances by New York Philharmonic Orchestra, where you can enjoy the evening with a picnic dinner followed by fireworks.

While picnicking is popular, you can find a number of terrific restaurants within walking distance. A great treat is to buy a coffee and a piece of world-famous carrot cake from Lloyd’s Restaurant and enjoy a mid-morning coffee break while taking in the amazing natural landscape and activities at the park.
